Andy Canham - Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

I have been a parent governor for 6 years and am now a Local Authority governor. I have been Chair of Governors at Elton Primary School and Nursery since 2016. Last year, I was elected as a member of the Cheshire West Governance Association and am currently Treasurer elect for the Association. As a governor, my interests include finance and budgeting to support school development, understanding performance data, SEND, staff retention and recruitment. In the recent borough elections, I was elected to serve as a Parish Councillor for my local village. I am a professional geologist and the director of two companies providing consultancy and analysis for hydrocarbon, civil engineering and environmental companies globally.

 

Andy Kent - Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

Andy has spent his working life in and around schools, as a High school  teacher, full time teacher trade union official across the North West of England and a senior manager in Children's Services in Cheshire and then Cheshire East, where his responsibilities included leading governor services. Now semi-retired, he works as a school governance consultant as well as undertaking voluntary school governor duties, something he has undertaken throughout his working life in both primary and secondary schools. This is the third IEB he has chaired. He was designated as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) in April 2013, and has also served as a trustee of the National Governance Association, and as a member of the Department for Education’s Advisory Group on Governance (AGOG).

 

Cheryl Bullen - Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

Recently retired Headteacher with a specialism in primary science. Mrs Bullen has extensive experience of developing strategic approaches to improve outcomes with the support of staff and Governors. She has worked in a number of settings both large and small. She is passionate about Inclusion and believes in developing strong partnerships with parents, staff and Governors to provide the best possible opportunities for all pupils. A highlight of her last role was the school achieving a judgement of Outstanding in the last SIAMS.

As part of the CWAPH executive team over 7 years, she participated in devloping strategic links with our LA and participating in a wide range of actions to support local schools. She has sat on Schools Forum to consult on the distribution of LA finances for education and for the last 2 years was the Headteacher representative on the Education and Well Being Access team.

 

Hilary Berry - Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

I am a parent and grandparent. I have a wide experience of working within and supporting schools and academies. I was Headteacher for 19 years and Over Hall Community School that converted to a single academy. For the last four years I have been Chair of Cheshire West and Chester Association of Primary Headteachers. During this time, I have been involved strategically and operationally in activities that support and challenge colleagues in our Primary schools

I have been a governor at a number of schools.  I am currently a governor and trustee of two schools and a trustee of a charity that delivers full day nursery care in three children centres.

I will endeavour to utilise the knowledge and skills gained to ensure that our children and their families receive high quality education and have access to rich experiences at Utkinton CE Primary School.

 

Ian McGrady - Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

I am a school governor for a primary school in Wirral and my day job is the managing director of Edsential, a community interest company that provides a range of services to schools across the NW England. I have a good understanding of the challenges facing small, rural schools and I am keen to support the Utkinton St Paul's community . I have two daughters in secondary school and I hope my recent  experience of being a parent of primary school children will be helpful in this role.

 

Mark Whitehill - Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

My present role is School Effectiveness Officer for Chester Diocese; this involves working across the schools within the Diocese to identify needs, involving liaison and collaboration with leaders, governors and LA officers.

I have a wide range of experience as a Primary headteacher, having worked in this capacity for 18 years in two different Local Authorities (Cheshire and Wirral). I also worked in a Senior Leadership capacity (including significant time as Deputy and Acting Headteacher) for nine years in a C of E school in Sefton LA.

I have served on Governing bodies for nearly 30 years, across four different schools, being involved in all aspects of governance.

In my most recent headship, I worked as part of a consortium of six schools, sharing skills in governance, leadership, assessment and curriculum expertise. This collaborative work has ensured that I understand the value of shared knowledge and expertise to raise standards.

 

Nayland Southorn -Appointed by the LA on 22nd May 2019

Former secondary headteacher in both Cheshire and North Wales with a 25 year successful track record in senior education management. Now working across the UK as an education management consultant. Highly motivated and committed to raising educational achievement for every child. Extensive experience of implementing strategic and business development plans and managing challenging situations.  Currently Chair of Governors at Eccleston C of E Primary School and operating as an Associate Consultant with The Cheshire Diocesan Board of Education.
