Why Utkinton?

Welcome to Utkinton St. Paul’s C.E. Primary School!

Lorna Pleavin

As Headteacher of Utkinton St Paul's C.E. Primary School I am very proud of our school and the achievements of all our children. We warmly welcome you and hope these pages will give you an insight into our happy school community.  Utkinton is a small school, in rural Cheshire, aiming to enable children of all abilities from age 4+ to 11 to achieve their full individual potential in a caring, Christian environment.

Utkinton is often described as a family, something of which we are very proud.  Parents and staff work in close partnership to ensure the best for their children.  Parents transferring their children from other schools often comment that they and their children have never before been made to feel so welcome and included.

At Utkinton the children benefit from small class sizes: each year our Reception intake is ten. The school is organised in four classes, each of which has at least one full-time Teaching Assistant.  This high teacher : pupil ratio means that children receive a great deal of individual attention and a highly personalised education in addition to greater opportunities in wider curricular experiences such as school productions, celebration church services and sport.

We aim to develop all children to their full potential and to encourage individuality and creativity at the same time as providing the children with an exciting curriculum in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school which provides an education suited to every individual.

We aim to provide creative, cross-curricular, theme-based learning, linked to memorable experiences both in and out of the classroom, in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. At the heart of our philosophy is active learning both on and beyond the school site.  All children participate in one trip a term linked to their topic for the term and all our children have the opportunity to take part in a residential visit every year. We hope to inspire the children with our individualised, child-centred curriculum and we are confident that all our children love coming to school.

Children from Utkinton transfer generally to Tarporley High School - an 'Outstanding' high school. Over the course of Year 6, children engage in several transition days - as well as a transitional residential to the Conwy Centre in Wales. During recent years, many of our children have gone on to join top sets at Tarporley High School, emphasising the strength of the results our children achieve.

We also have strong links with the local church (St Helen’s, Tarporley) where many of our celebration services take place and local clergy visit regularly to take Collective Worship.  We also have links with other village groups and organise Tirley Garth, the annual village celebration.

We would love you to visit us and see for yourself some of the exciting learning opportunities on offer, the enthusiasm of the children and the commitment of the staff.  Please phone the School Office – Telephone 01829 732322 – to arrange a visit.
