Carnival of the Animals Music Day

Lesson: Music

Today, the children joined the Huxley children to experience a “Carnival of the Animals” music day. We began the day listening to pieces of music from Carnival of the Animals composed by Camille Saint-Seans. We listened to the "Aquarium" piece and responded through art. The children sketched all the ideas that came to their imagination when listening to the piece of music. After this, we responded to "Elephant", "Aviary" and "Person with Long Ears" through movement, investigating ways to move, jump twist and turn in time to the music and in a way that represents the animals. In the afternoon, the children work in groups, with each group focusing on a different animal - shark, dolphin, penguin, tiger and elephant. The children selected their instruments, mapped out their performance and rehearsed their composition. We then held a performance for the rest of Huxley School and the teachers!
