Years 3 and 4 Explore Athenian Democracy

Class: Lower Juniors Year: 2018 - 2019

Years 3 and 4 stepped back in time last week to act out Athenian Democracy. Three citizens were chosen to become members of the Boule. They stood on top of the Pynx in Athens to share their suggestions of new laws. They read these out and the Eccelsia were provided with black and white pebbles which they used to vote with. Black for no, white (or coloured Maths counters) for yes. The votes were counted and they agreed upon their new rule- free feasts for everyone to celebrate the recent victory against the Spartans!
One final decision was to ‘ostracise’ the tyrant leader- Miss Miller.
