About Thinkuknow

Thinkuknow is an education programme from the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command.

Since 2006, Thinkuknow has been keeping children and young people safe by providing education about sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.

Thinkuknow is unique. It is underpinned by the latest intelligence about child sex offending from CEOP Command.

Thinkuknow aims to ensure that everyone has access to this practical information – children, young people, their parents and carers and the professionals who work with them.

Alongside the Thinkuknow website the programme provides educational resources, including films, cartoons and lesson plans, to help professionals raise young people’s awareness.

For Parents and Children:

The CEOP website has advice about staying safe online. Some of the videos are quite hard-hitting so we recommend viewing them yourself, before sharing with your children.

Child Exploitation Online Protection Agency - Thinkuknow resources for parents and carers

In school, the children across KS1 and KS2 will be learning more about E-Safety based around the following themes;

                   Internet Safety

                   Privacy and Security

                   Relationships and communication

                   Cyber-bullying

                   Digital footprint and reputation

                   Self-image and identity

                   Information Literacy

                   Creative Credit and Copyright

We are also going to be doing some more work with the children so that they can share their E-Safety learning and knowledge with their families at home. Below are some links you may find useful in helping your children to stay safe on the Internet.

Childnet.com - Parents and Carers Toolkit

The internet provides a space for children and young people to communicate, explore, laugh and learn. There are lots of ways parents and carers can support them in doing these things safely.

This toolkit provides three resources that offer practical tips and advice on different aspects of keeping your child safe online. They can help support parents and carers of any age child to start discussions about their online life, to set boundaries around online behaviour and technology use, and to find out where to get more help and support.

'Let's talk about life online' includes ten key messages that should be shared with children:

1. You can always come to me if you need help.

2. What would you do if this happened…?

3. Remember that not everyone is who they say they are online.

4. Keep your personal information safe, and other people’s too.

5. Be respectful to others online.

6. Think before you post.

7. Remember to ask if it’s okay.

8. Remember not everything is true online.

9. The things other people post online might not always show what their life is really like.

10 Recognise how going online makes you feel and take a break when you need to.

The full toolkit can be found in our attached documents below.
