Chestnut Class Blog W/B Monday 21st March 2022
Class: Eagles Year: 2021 - 2022
We have had a busy week in Chestnut Class this week!
In Literacy this week, we started by exploring and gathering evidence to identify the different views as to whether gorillas should be kept in captivity. Then we analyzed a model balanced argument in preparation to write our own. They started by using a dictionary to explore and hypothesize the meaning of unfamiliar words, which we were going to come across in a balanced argument. Then we looked at the language features and structure of a model balanced argument to familiarize ourselves with the types of features we need to use in our balanced arguments. From this, we identified that one of the language features we were going to use in our writing, was going to be conjunctions. So, we created a variety of sentences using a variety of conjunctions or semicolons, that we could use in our balanced argument.
In Maths, Year 6 have been looking at reasoning SATs style questions and problem solving by adding and subtracting fractions, showing a variety of methods. While Year 5 have been finding equivalent fractions and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers.
For RE this week, the children have been practicing our Mothering Sunday service and the Easter Service. The children are so excited for both and some children have taken on the role of narrators.
The children enjoyed a Cricket session on Thursday with Andy Dufty from Cheshire Cricket! They all came back keen cricketers and some were even talking about attending a cricket club after being inspired to play.
We hope our mother's enjoyed the Mother's Day Service on Friday afternoon, the children all worked hard to create their recipe poems for their mother's.
