Years 5 and 6 Enjoy Quarry Bank Mill Trip

Years 5 and 6 children enjoyed a trip to Quarry Bank Mill on Tuesday as part of their topic on the Industrial Revolution. During the day children experienced a range of learning, including a tour of the cotton mill and a visit to the Apprentice House. They had opportunity to discover the history of the mill as well as the types of jobs workers there carried out. Stories were shared about workers at the mill and children were able to see how the weaving industry developed – from rural family businesses through to mass production in factories. One of the main aims of the trip was to bring learning to life and we achieved this through the children’s experiences. During the tour of the cotton mill they had opportunity to hear the machines in action and appreciate the noise. Additionally, they played the role of apprentices, carrying out the duties around the house. Well done to Jack Goodwin and Luis Waterhouse who went the extra mile, dressing up as Victorians.
