Reception 1st-5th Feb Star of the Week- Elliot

Monday 1st February- Friday 5th February

In maths we have been focusing on time. We practised the Days of the Week and created our own class timetable to think of the things that we do on different days of the week. We then went onto looking at time and the significant times during the school day such as lunch time and home time. We have also continued to count, write and order number 10-20.

In Literacy we have been busy reading and matching captions about sea creatures and then writing our own captions.

During the afternoons we have been working on an Ocean Project to research and write about the Layers of the Ocean and the diverse range of sea creatures that inhabit them.

Here is some information we found.

Sunlight Zone 0-600 feet, closest to top 90% of ocean animals live here, sharks, sea turtles, seals, jellyfish, plants

Twilight Zone 600-3300 feet, no plants, animals that live here like cold water and darkness, crabs, some sharks, lobsters

Midnight Zone 3300-13200 feet – not very much food, only light is made from animals, squid, eels

Abyss-near freezing, no light, very few animals, largest part of the ocean

Trenches-deepest part of ocean, temperature is barely above freezing, starfish and worms.

Next week we will be learning all about Chinese New Year, Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day.

Star of the Week

This week’s Star of the Week is Elliot. Elliot has been showing fantastic initiative and independence when choosing where to learn in continuous provision. He has constructed some fantastic models and labelled them without any support. Well Done Elliot!

Best wishes, Miss Jones.
